With three Grammy’s and seven gold records to his credit, NEA Jazz Master Ramsey Lewis has truly earned his nickname “the great performer,” a title reflecting his performance style, which displays his early gospel and classical training along with his love of jazz and other musical forms. His latest work on Concord, “Songs From the Heart: Ramsey Plays Ramsey,” features his trio with Larry Gray on bass and Leon Joyce on drums.

Pianist and composer Ramsey Lewis is an American jazz icon. He has received seven gold records and winner of three Grammy Awards, he has ranked among the world’s great jazz pianists for more than 40 years, regularly topping the charts with classics such as “The In Crowd.” Patti Austin performs songs from her album “Avant Gershwin, which won a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album, in addition to other songs from her repertoire.

Patti Austin will open the show with her distinctive vocal combination of pop, jazz and musical tributes. Next, Ramsey Lewis will perform with piano stylings of his greatest songs, from slow and calming to more upbeat. The two will end the night on stage together, Ramsey on piano backing Patti on vocals.
