By on Monday, April 6th, 2015 in Blog

Patti and Jason RichMENTORING IS MY MIDDLE NAME joked Patti Austin while in the WBZ studios in Boston Massachusetts!

Success starts with great mentoring and Grammy Award Winner Patti Austin shared all her secrets with Boston Radio Legend Jordan Rich recently. During a vibrant conversation, Patti reminded listeners, that you can’t wait for success to find you.”You must strategically invest your time with people you admire for what you can learn from them to enrich your life. Everyone has wisdom to share, even if it’s reminding you of what to avoid in life.”

Already famous at age 9, Patti reminisced about how her legendary mentors such as Dinah Washington, Quincy Jones, and Harry Belefonte – to name a few helped nurture and navigate her career to great success! Patti’s latest tour stopped in Boston for several shows at Scullers Jazz Club and allowed Patti to get her yearly dose of design mentoring: Between the shows, Patti got fired up with her “Over My Shoulder Foundation” activities of fostering the cause of “Mentorology.” Joining the award-winning stone designer and “Over my Shoulder” co-founder Dawn Carroll, the two long time friends participated in and produced several high-profile events in the Interior Design industry.

“I am Dawn’s musical mentor AND Dawn is my Design Mentor!”, Patti proudly stated. “We all have dreams and passions and it can be difficult to pursue them while managing busy careers and schedules. ” Dawn and I committed to starting the Over My Shoulder Foundation because we both know the power of great mentoring. We both still have dreams and we are helping each other pursue those dreams while spreading the gospel of mentoring to others. Dawn has been creating huge events for the Design Industry for a couple years. The events inspire great design Icons to share their time, wisdom and expertise. I join these events to learn as much as I can from the greatest talent available. Always go to the experts- always mentor… It’s elementary!”
