Over My Shoulder is a duet sung by 13 year old singing sensation, Lianna Guiterrez and Grammy Award Winning singing legend, Patti Austin. The song is about inspiration, guidance and mentoring; about passing the baton to a younger generation. The real life mentoring effort that exists between Lianna and Patti has ignited a stunning conversation in Boston Massachusetts, which is historically known for its big ideas and now are reaching to all to be part of musical mentoring organization, the Over My Shoulder Foundation.
Whether older to younger, or younger to older… once again, it has been proven that mentoring knows no age. When great talents collide, we are reminded that without inspiration, education or support there is no evolving and without emotional sustenance, without a positive influence in our lives, we can become lost, disconnected and unstable . as individuals and as a society.
Jimi Hendrix said it best. ” If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only be done through music.”
With so many complicated issues out there.. music may be the only tool with the unique ability to arouse great introspection and activism – that being said we sincerely hope you will consider helping us rejuvenate the term mentoring.

Quincy Jones and Rock Newman, boxing–turned–entertainment promoter, unveiled the growing group of award-winning musicians that will assemble to perform live with Quincy at the 14th Annual Bermuda Music Festival. Patti Austin will perform in a spectacular setting on the tip of the island of Bermuda on the 2nd day, October 30th.
Patti Austin has worked with Quincy since she was 4 years old and a member of Quincy’s extended family. Proud to be Patti’s godfather, Quincy produced her #1 hit “Baby, Come to Me” – a duet with James Ingram. Patti’s other work with the Quincy “family” includes collaboration with both Quincy and Michael Jackson on “Off The Wall” and “The Wiz”.
The lineup – like Quincy’s own career – mixes a broad variety of talent, range and style. The elite group of musicians share both musical roots and – in some cases personal ties – with the man who has collaborated with talents as diverse as Frank Sinatra, Will Smith and Ella Fitzgerald. Other artist to perform at the 2009 Bermuda Music Festival are Erykah Badu, James Ingram, Wyclef Jean, John Legend, Michael McDonald, Kenny Rogers, Naturally Seven.
Patti Austin who worked with Michael Jackson on several albums, including “Off the Wall,” joined Larry King and two other Michael Jackson’s longtime friends to reminisce about their friendship with Michael, Tuesday – July 7th.
Patti Austin also shared her memories of Michael Jackson to all, during her call with CNN, afternoon of June 26th.
“I’m very, very sad about Michael. I wish I could say that it was unexpected. For those of us that knew him for anytime in his adult life, there was always a suspicion that there would never be an old Michael Jackson. But, it’s still shocking…It’s a shocking departure…
He didn’t work out, he just worked and like a demon. He did everything to the extreme. We would get ready to go on stage to perform and he would stand in the wings, kinda like the Warner’s Brother’s frog, and then the lights would go up and he would become this demon on stage. And then he would finish and curl right back up into a ball again. Everything was done to the extreme…
I’m hearing so many people talk about Michael at this point, obviously, and his music. I was very, very, very lucky to be there during what I would call the golden years of his career…
In a sad but realistic way it’s understandable that his light would go out in what we might see as premature.” — Patti
